Perhaps Stross was insane without the Marker influencing him? He had clearly lost it, even though he spent roughly half of DS2 with Ellie.
The only crack in this theory that I can find is Stross. Santos and Buckell don't appear to be insane either and we can reasonably assume that they and Ellie stuck together during their time on Tau Volantis.ĭoes that mean that Ellie is immune to the Marker signal, just like Lexine? I honestly believe that this is the case. Isaac doesn't receive any Nicole hallucinations in Ellie's vicinity in DS2. Here's another thing: with the exception of Stross, we don't see anyone acting crazy around her either, just as with Lexine. We don't see her get violent, suicidal or do anything that the Markers commonly induce. Then we have her surviving at least two weeks in the orbit of Tau Volantis, a planet with possibly millions of Markers on it, and then spending some time on the surface of said planet. We know that the inhabitants of Titan Station started seeing their deceased relatives even before the Necromorph outbreak (as was noted in the logs in the Elementary School) and that they did start going suicidal and violent once the outbreak had actually started. Then we have Ellie who has never displayed (at least to my knowledge) any signs of insanity, despite being in areas under the influence of the Marker signal. In Dead Space: Extraction, we learn that certain individuals are immune to the effects of the Markers, and that particular immunity extends to anyone standing near them.
This thought crossed my mind the other day. Note: I apologize in advance if this has been addressed before on this sub as I am relatively new here.
